In the fantastical world of Japanese anime, amidst the normalcy of everyday life, a team of Magical Girls undergo transformations that reveal their hidden powers. As their clothes transform from everyday school uniforms to a fantasy of bows and frills, inner characteristics come to light and they come together to form a team, often to fight the evils of the world.

☆･*:.｡. .｡.:*･ transcension ･*:.｡. .｡.:*･☆ explores the magic of bringing the unreal into the real. Inspired by the magical girl genre, I created three transformative costumes, each fostering an identity drawn from facets of myself, as well as a magical portal, through which magic can be directly accessed. The interactive exhibit serves as a form of self-portraiture, and invites the audience to engage with both her identity and the magic of the space.

Portal is an interactive sculpture through which visitors are able to summon generative light patterns that fade into an infinite tunnel of light.
